Rottnest Channel Swim 2012

Unlike last year when we arrived at the beach in total darkness, this year our son was in the last group to start from Cottesloe Beach so the family turned out in numbers to support his team.

The early morning sky promised a clear day ahead

There were kayaks everywhere

Il Lido opened at 6.30am to ensure everyone could get their caffeine fix

Colin Barnett and Tim Gossage share a joke at the start line

One of the sponsors provided giant beach balls for the kids

The Leeuwin strikes a majestic pose amongst all the swimmers and escort boats

Have You Seen My Dog?

This is a wonderful dog brooch which I bought at a market in Melbourne last year and which sits on my dressing table at home.

It was made by a little old man who is retired and just does it as a hobby.  He makes all different kinds of dogs and has been wooed by a number of retailers, all of whom he has refused because he doesn't want to be tied down by commitments and wants to be able to go fishing whenever he feels like it.

I have looked for him on subsequent visits to Melbourne to no avail - I guess the fish must have been running.

I only wish I had bought a couple more.

The Reflection Pool

As part of the Perth International Arts Festival the Reflection Pool at UWA has been transformed by the installation of a spectacular red flower which spans the entire width of the pool.  It is illuminated at night and looks amazing as it inflates and then slowly deflates again.

The resident ducks seemed quite bemused.

Valentine's Sunset

There was an extra special sunset last night for everyone who spent Valentine's evening at the beach.

Nesting Time

I'm making Easter things at the moment in preparation for Perth Upmarket and Unwrapped at South Perth, both of which are next month.

How amazing when I looked out the window from my desk and saw a dove nesting in our lemon tree.

It's definitely nesting time.

Red

I have moved some things around so that we now have a red corner!

Tip:  old enamel mugs are great for growing succulents in.

Roof Architecture

Is this Melbourne or Prague?

I never really noticed it until recently, but there is a very strong European influence in the roof design of the older buildings around Fitzroy in Melbourne.

It reminded me of Prague, where we spent some time in October last year.
